Four members of a family were severely burned after an air conditioner exploded in their apartment in the capital’s Jatrabari area early Saturday morning (Sept 20).
The blast occurred on the seventh floor of a residential building near Lichubagan Mosque in Dhalpur’s Bou Bazar area around 1:30 am.
The injured were identified as Md Tuhin Hossain, 38, his wife Iba Akter, 30, and their two sons, Tanvir, 9, and Tawhid, 7.
The victims are now receiving treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
According to Iba’s sister, Farzana Akter, the family was asleep when the air conditioner suddenly exploded, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed the room.
Neighbours rushed to the scene, extinguished the flames, and helped rescue the family before taking them to the burn institute.
Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute’s emergency department, said Tuhin suffered burns to 40% of his body, Iba to 8%, Tawhid to 15%, and Tanvir to 47%. All four remain hospitalized and are undergoing treatment.
