200 injured, 50 factories shut

ASHULIA: At least 200 garments workers, including police were injured, in separate clashes with police at Beron, Jamgora, Jirabo and Norsinghopur of Ashulia, the outskirt of capital Dhaka on Sunday.

Sources said hundreds workers of many garments of the area blocked Bipail-Abdullapur road and staged demonstration demanding hiking salary to Tk 8,000 from 5,300 from the morning.

They vandalized a number of vehicles in the area.

On information, police rushed to spot and tried to bring the situation under control.

But agitating workers locked into clash with police. Police opened fired teargas shells and rubber bullets that left at least 200 workers including police injured.

On the other hand, authorities concerned declared some 50 garments shut after the incident.

Industrial police-1 director Mustafizur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
