DHAKA: The severe cyclonic storm “Helen” (with estimated central pressure 992 hpa) over west central bay and adjoining area moved slightly westwards over the same area.
It was centred at 6 am Friday and is about 1285 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 1250 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port and 1090 kms of southwest of Mongla port, said met office.
It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and may cross Andhra Pradesh coast near Machillipatnam of India by afternoon.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kms of the storm centre is about 90 kph rising to 110 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the centre of the storm.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
