CHITTAGONG: The daylong hartal, enforced by metropolitan BNP, and the 48-hour blockade, enforced by 18-party, is underway in the port city simultaneously on Tuesday.
Metropolitan BNP are observing the hartal in protest against the sustaining bullet injury by son of Mostafa Kamal Pasha MP of Chittagong-13 constituency inflicted by miscreants while 18-party is enforcing the countrywide blockade protesting the announcement of schedule for the 10th general election.
Inter district buses were not seen to leave the city while some intra-city services were plying through the port city streets.
Meanwhile, police nabbed two BNP men from a procession in support of hartal in front of Almas intersection in the city at 7:45am, said additional deputy commissioner (South) Manjur Morshed.
Superintendent of police of Chittagong AKM Hafiz Akhter told banglanews that they had deployed more than 3,000 polices on the highways.
Additional deputy commissioner (Public Relations) of detective branch of Chittagong Metropolitan of Police (CMP) Babul Akhter told banglanews that additional forces were deployed and strict security measures were taken to maintain the law and order.
