DHAKA: The deadline for the submission of nomination papers to compete the upcoming 10th national election ended on Monday.
The Election Commission (EC) holds a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner in the chair but didn’t make any disclosure to journalists about stipulated time for submitting nomination papers.
As per the EC schedule, the candidates had to submit their nomination papers to either respective returning officer or assistant returning officer by 5:00pm on December 2.
On November 25, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed announced the schedule for the general elections for January 5.
BNP, the main opposition party, has already declared that it would not join the elections under the current government.
The party has been demanding to hold the national elections under a non-party caretaker government.
The CEC, however, hinted that the polls schedule could be altered in the event a political consensus emerges.
