Writ against ‘TICFA’ agreement

DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Wednesday challenging the legality of signing the much-talked about Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework Agreement (TICFA) with the US.

Supreme Court Lawyer Mokhsedul Islam filed the petition with concerned department of the HC.

Cabinet Secretary, secretary of Prime Minister’s Office, Secretary for law ministry, commerce secretary, foreign secretary and Bangladesh Ambassador to US were made defendants in the writ.    

On November 25, the agreement was signed at the conference room of United State Trade Representative (USTR).

Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmed of Bangladesh and Deputy USTR Windy Cutler of US signed the agreement on behalf of their respective side.

On June 17, the cabinet approved the draft of TICFA.
