DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner (Investigation) Shahab Uddin Chuppu said the verdict against Senior Vice Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman, also son of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in the case of money laundering was baseless.

He came up with the observation in an informal briefing at Segun Bagicha head office of ACC on Thursday afternoon.

After submitting the appeal, Chuppu said the journalists: “Based on evidences, we submitted the charge against Tarique Rahman in the court. But we were depressed and offended with the verdict of the court. There was no base for things that were considered for the verdict.”

The ACC Commissioner also said that ACC do not think the verdict justified though the judge thinks so from his angle.

He also expressed his hope that the matter would be settled in the higher court.

Earlier in the day, ACC appealed in the High Court against the verdict by lower court against Tarique Rahman in the money laundering case in which he was declared as acquitted.

ACC lawyer M Khurshid Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
