DHAKA: Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs in the United Nations Oscar Fernandez-Taranco said United Nations wants a free and fair election in Bangladesh with participation of all parties.

He came up with the assertion in a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at his ministry on Saturday morning.  

A source of the meeting confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Taranco avoided journalists after emerging from the half an hour meeting.  

Earlier, Taranco, also special ambassador of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for Political Affairs, had an hour-long meeting with foreign secretary Shahidul Haque at around 10:00am.

On Friday, a five-member UN delegation led by Taranco arrived Dhaka.

Sources said Taranco’ this visit would be the third times to urge concerned parties to take steps for resolving the ongoing political turmoil of the country.

Foreign Ministry sources said that Taranco would talk to the leaders’ from two main political parties and noted citizens of the country.
