DHAKA: The severe cyclonic storm ‘MADI’ (with estimated central pressure 992 hpa) over southwest bay and adjoining area moved slightly northeastwards over the same area.
It was centred at 6 am Sunday about 1445 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 1415 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port and 1370 kms south-southwest of Mongla port (near lat 11.20 n and long 84.30 e).
It is likely to intensify further and move in a northerly direction, the met office said.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kms of the storm centre is about 90 kph rising to 110 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain high near the storm centre.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two.
All fishing boats and trawlers over deep sea have been advised to remain close to North Bay and proceed with caution till further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
