DHAKA: Oscar Fernández Taranco, UN assistant secretary general for political affairs, is holding meeting with Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Sunday morning as part of his talks with political parties of Bangladesh to find out way of resolving the ongoing political stalemate.
Taranco entered Ershad`s residence, President Park, in capital’s Baridhara area at around 9:30am.
Earlier on Saturday, Taranco had a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban where he asked the primer to defer the election schedule for ensuring participation of all the party.
In response to Taranco Sheikh Hasina told that deferring the election schedule is the jurisdiction of the Election Commission (EC).
The UN envoy also met Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and Foreign Minister AH Mahmud Ali at the ministry.
On Friday, a five-member UN delegation led by Taranco arrived Dhaka.
Sources said Taranco’ this visit would be the third times to urge concerned parties to take steps for resolving the ongoing political turmoil of the country.
Foreign Ministry sources said that Taranco would talk to the leaders’ from two main political parties and noted citizens of the country.
