18-party calls hartal for Tuesday

SIRAJGANJ: Opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance called hartal the district for Tuesday protesting the killing of a schoolboy in a clash with police during blockade hours on Monday morning.

District BNP President Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, also adviser to the chairperson of the party, made the announcement of the shutdown in the afternoon.

In the morning, the schoolboy--Rasel Hossain, 12—was shot dead and 20 others, including journalists and police, were injured in a clash between activists of BNP-Jamaat and police in Bahuli Bazar area under Sadar upazila of the district.

Rasel Hossain was son of Anwar Hossain of Bahuli village and a student of class-IV of Chhabbisha Primary School.

Witnesses said that the activists of BNP-Jamaat men blockaded Sirajganj-Raiganj road in the area around 11:00am.
