Road crashes kill 2, injure 5 in capital

DHAKA: At least two people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in capital’s Khilgaon and Mirpur on Wednesday night.

Senior Correspondent reports: One was killed and five others injured in a road accident in capital’s Khilgaon flyover on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 26, son of late Ishaque Mia, resident of capital’s Basabo area under Sabujbag Thana.

Among the injured, bus helper Sahajuddin Saju, 25, and Kajal Hossain, 22, were rushed to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.

Officer-in-charge of Sabujbag police station Asaduzzaman said a Sayedabad- bound bus of “Bismillah” paribahan turned turtle at Khilgaon flyover as the driver lost his control over the steering at about 9:45pm, leaving six people seriously injured. The injured were rushed to DMCH where on duty doctors declared Monir dead.

On information, police rushed to the spot and seized the bus. Meanwhile, police arrested its driver.

A case was filed with Sabujbag police station in this connection, said police.

On the other hand, another person was killed in a road crash in capital’s Mirpur area on the same night.

The deceased was identified as Akbar Ali, resident of Lalbag area.

Sub inspector of Mirpur Model Thana Saiful Islam said a speedy minibus rammed Akbar down while he was crossing a road close to Ansar Camp in Paikpara at about 9:30pm. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital where on duty doctor declared him dead.

A case was filed with Mirpur Model Thana in this connection.
