BARISAL: The district Bus owners’ Association on Tuesday evening called off their indefinite strike enforced in the morning on 10 local routes in protest against the launch of a bus service in Uzirpur upazila.

As the Association withdrew the strike with intervention of the district commissioner, the road communications returned to normal on the routes.

In a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, leaders of the Association accepted District Commissioner SM Arif-ur-Rahman’s proposal to halt the mini-costar service on Ujirpur to Satla via Shanuhar route.

According to General Secretary of the Association Alamgir Hossain the strike was enforced as lawmaker from Barisal-2 Monirul Islam Moni had inaugurated the new bus service on 16 in defiance of Barisal Bus Owners Association’s jurisdiction.

“There is no provision for launching bus service without consent of the owners’ association, and it will create indiscipline,” he added.

In this regard, MP Monirul Islam Moni’s reaction was not found as he is now in the USA.
