Four cops among 9 sued over ex-ACC official's death

Nine people were sued today (October 16) in connection with the death of former deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Sayed Mohammad Shahidullah in police custody recently.

The four accused police officials are --Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khairul Islam, Inspector (Investigation) Mominur Rahman, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Md Younus and Sohel Rana.

The other accused are -- SM Asaduzzaman, Jasim Uddin, Md Liton, Rony Akhter Tania, and Koli Akhter.

Foujia Anwar, wife of the deceased, filed the complaint with Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge's Court under the Custodial Death Prevention Act-2013's Section 15(2) and Section 109 of Penal Code.

Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr. Begum Zebunnesha’s court passed the order asking the deceased’s wife to record the complaint.

On October 3, Shahidullah, 65, was arrested after a court issued an arrest warrant in a case filed by Rony Akhter Tania. He died in police custody on the same night.

Family members, terming the incident as a ‘murder’, accused police of showing negligence and torturing Shahidullah while he was in custody, despite knowing he was a heart-patient.

Family members also alleged that the warrant and the case against Shahidullah were fabricated.

Meanwhile, following the incident, CMP closed ASIs Md Younus and Sohel Rana, who detained him, and attached them to the CMP Dampara Police Lines.
