Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the newly constructed Jayeeta Tower in the city's Dhanmondi area today (October 17).
She opened the tower by unveiling its inaugural plaque, and visited the Jamdani Gallery and Joyeeta Marketplace set up in the tower.
Prime Minister's younger sister Sheikh Rehana was present at the opening ceremony.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy artists welcomed the prime minister and her younger sister with song and dance. They also took pictures with them.
Later, the premier visited different parts of the Tower and signed the visitor's book.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nazma Mobarek and Joyeeta Foundation Managing Director Afroza khan were also present.
According to authorities concerned, Joyeeta Tower will serve as a hub for women entrepreneurs, fostering their involvement in various business ventures operating under the banner of Joyeeta.
The Tower will boast state-of-the-art infrastructure dedicated to the training of women entrepreneurs, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and strategies essential for successful business management and development.
Ample parking space and a spacious lobby have been provided within the Tower, which is also set to house the headquarters of the Joyeeta Foundation.
The Joyeeta Iconic Tower is replete with a Child Daycare Centre, a Design Centre, Beauty Parlour, Gymnasium exclusively for women, a Swimming Pool accessible to both women and children, a Multipurpose Hall, Seminar Hall, Bank, Food-Court, and a Cafe. Additionally, the launch of the E-Joita online marketplace is a significant development.
The foundation stone for the 12-story Joyeeta Tower was laid by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with a budget of Taka 168 crore, on a one-bigha piece of land located on 27 (old) road in Dhanmondi, the capital, on December 1, 2021. It's noteworthy that Sheikh Hasina initiated the Joyeeta Foundation program on November 16, 2011, with the primary goal of fostering the economic empowerment of women in Bangladesh.
The government has allocated one bigha of land at a nominal cost to each division across the nation. Joyeeta's activities have been set in motion, creating a women-centric marketing network that spans departments, districts, and upazilas, furthering the cause of women's economic empowerment.
