11 get life term for murder and robbery in Lakhsmipur

A Lakhsmipur court on Tuesday (October 17) sentenced 11 people to life term with rigorous imprisonment in a murder and robbery case. 

The court also fined each convict Tk 10,000; in default, they have to spend another year in prison.

The convicts are - Kausar, Abul Hossain, Chota Kamal, Hossain alias Patowari, Belal, Anwar Hossain, Ripon, Kabir Hossain, Ismail Hossain, Alamgir and Abul Kalam Bahar.

The district and Sessions Judge Court Judge Rahibul Islam passed the order this noon.

The court also acquitted Lipi and Noor Nahar in the case as the charges brought against them were not proved.

District Judge Court Public Prosecutor Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.

According to the case statement, on February 16, 2005 night, a group of masked robbers raided the house of Maqbul Ahmad, 70, the master merchant of Abul Khair, in Dakshin Gangashibpur village of Dattapara union of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila. At one stage, the robbers shot dead Maqbul and looted valuables including gold ornaments.

The next day, Delwara Begum, the daughter of the deceased, filed a case at the Sadar police station accusing unknown persons.

The case was investigated by the then Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Kashem Bhuiyan of the Dattapara Police Investigation Centre. On December 29, 2005, he submitted the charge sheet to the court accusing 14 people.
