More than 5 lakh expired vehicles on roads: BRTA chairman

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder on Tuesday (October 17) admitted that expired vehicles are being operated across the country.

At the same time, he informed that more than 5 lakh expired vehicles are plying the roads.

BRTA chairman came up with the information at a press conference held at his office this afternoon marking the National Safe Roads Day.

He said, “Expired vehicles running on the roads could be more or less than five lakh. However, we cannot tag a car unfit or expired based on its colour.”

“Awareness is needed to make the road safe. We need to build a social movement for it. If we do not do this, the implementation of safe roads will be a big challenge for us,” he said.

“We have enforcement weaknesses, because BRTA does not have enough magistrates. So how do we ensure enforcement?” he added.
