The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a fugitive death row convict in a case after 12 years of killing his wife in Bogura.
The death row convict identified as Ziaur Rahman Zia, 37, son of Tozammel Hauq of Bogura’s Shibganj.
RAB-12 Company Commander Superintendent of Police Mir Monir Hossain disclosed the matter through a press release this noon (October 22).
According to press release, in 2011, Zia strangled his four-month pregnant wife to death demanding dowry. Later, Latiful Bari, the victim's father, filed a case under the Suppression of Women and Children Act at Shibganj police station. After the trial, the court sentenced Zia to death in August 2023.
Later, Zia was released on bail after spending three years four months in jail. Then he fled to abroad.
However, Zia then came back to Bangladesh and re-married In Gazipur and was staying there hiding identity.
RAB-12 Bogura Camp Company Commander Monir Hossain said RAB started collecting information about the absconding accused after the verdict was passed. At one point, when his identity was confirmed, he was arrested on Saturday night.
After the arrest, he was handed over to Shibganj police station, said RAB official, adding the police will sent the convict to jail through the court.
