A doctor, who was stabbed in Cumilla’s Race Course area on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries at United Hospital in Dhaka on early Monday (Ocotber 23).

Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital confirming the matter said Zahirul Haque, died around 6:30am while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Earlier, Dr. Zahirul Haque and his wife Farhana Afrin Himi were indiscriminately stabbed inside the victim’s chamber on Saturday afternoon.

Later, a case was filed accusing five people following a complaint lodged by Zahir’s wife Farhana Himi.

According to case statement, Zahir was seriously injured in the incident and he was treated in the ICU of Cumilla Medical College Hospital. Himi was also stabbed and she received treatment at the same hospital.

The accused are - Salauddin Morshed Bhuiya alias Pappu, his wife Sumi, their sons Arham and Ahnaf, and Silver Development chairman Faruq Ahmed.

Ahmed Sonzur Morshed, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station said that police arrested Pappu in this incident.

Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused as well, he added.
