At least three persons were killed in a fire that broke out at Khawaja Tower in the capital’s Mohakhali on Thursday (October 26) evening.
The deceased are Rafiqul Islam, 65, resident of Mirpur, Aklima Rahman, 33, and Hasna Hena, 27, of Mohammadpur's Bosila area said police.
Rafiqul was pronounced dead after being brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Banani police station, also confirmed the matter at .
The victim Hasna Hena, 27, who worked at an office on the ninth floor, fell to her death while climbing down from the floor of the building, he said.
The woman was declared dead after she was taken to the Metropolitan Medical Centre Limited in Mohakhali, the OC added.
Four burn injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The injured are Mehedi Hasan, 27, Kazi Tasin Mahfuz, 23, HM Abdus Sabur, 45, and Rafiqul Islam, 45.
The devastating fire that broke out on the 12th floor of the 14-storey building around 5 pm.
‘Twelve fire fighting units are relentlessly working to bring the blaze under control,’ said Shajahan Shikder, senior staff officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
