Members of Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) detained six members of a Rohingya family at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport allegedly of transporting 6,275 pieces of yaba tablets.

APBN arrested the family members on Thursday evening.

Additional superintendent of APBN Muhammad Ziaul Haque confirmed the matter on Friday (November 3).

He said, "We first suspected them after they landed at the domestic terminal of the HSIA on a flight of Novoair from Cox’s Bazar and then brought them to the APBn office for interrogation."

Initially the family pretended to be Bangladeshi nationals and denied having any contraband items, he said.

All the detained Rohingya people were residents of the Leda camp at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, the officer said.
