FARIDPUR:   A suspected robber leader was killed in an encounter between the members of Rapid Action Battalion and his associates at Nazirpur in Bhanga upazila early Wednesday.

The dead was identified as Emdadul Haque Emda, hailed from Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district. He was an inter-district robber leader, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team raided Nazirpur Dr. Azizul Haque College ground where the gang members were holding a clandestine meeting at dawn.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, the robbers started firing. In retaliation, the RAB men fired back triggering a gun battle.

“Emdad was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot,” said Lt. Waliur Rashid, Company Commander of RAB.

He said Emdad and his associates were engaged in committing robberies on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway.
