Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday (November 8) said due to the current market situation, low-income and day labourer people in the city are suffering.
He was responding to a question from journalists after the National Tariff Policy Monitoring and Review Committee meeting at the Ministry's conference room this noon.
The minister during the meeting said the unsteady market situation is due to overall factors including the global situation. Elections are ahead, so it will not be right to influence the elections considering the matter.
In reply to another question, the commerce minister said, “It will be possible to reduce the price of commodities if we remain positive.”
“Women of my constituency apply lipstick three times a day, change sandals four times. I know very well, I have no problem. But the situation of the whole country is different,” said the minister.
Those who are day-laborers in the city, the lower classes are suffering a lot, Tipu Munshi said.
Regarding RMG workers demonstration, he said: "The minimum wage set by the government is good. I think most of the workers will agree."
