Seven buses have been set on fire in Mirpur-14, Kafrul, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Arambagh, Gabtali, Gulistan and Jatrabari areas in the capital between 8.20pm and 11:40pm on Saturday (November 11).
Among the incidents, a bus named Prajapati was set on fire in Mirpur 14 area at 11:38 pm. Later, two units from Mirpur Fire Station rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
Talha bin Jasim, media cell officer of fire service headquarters and Farukul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kafrul police station confirmed this information.
Meanwhile, another bus of Shikar Paribahan was set on fire on the road in front of Hasan Petrol Pump in Kafrul Taltala area around 11 pm.
In this regard, Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farukul Alam told Banglanews that the Shikar Paribahan bus left Hasan Petrol Pump taking fuel. Later, as soon as it started on the road, fire was seen in the back seat of the bus. However, it is possible to extinguish the fire immediately.
Another bus of Baisakhi Paribahan was set on fire in front of Sherbangla Nagar Paraplegic Hospital around 10:30 pm.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Utpal Barua said a fire was seen behind a bus of Boishakhi Paribahan in front of Pangu Hospital at night. Three passenger seats were burnt. Miscreants are believed to have set the bus on fire while passengers were inside.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident, he added.
A ‘Lal-Sabuj’ passenger bus was set on fire in front of Notre Dame College at 8:20 pm. Two units of Siddique Bazar fire station doused the fire.
On the other hand, a bus of Gabtali Express was set on fire in front of Gabtali bus stand around 8:30 pm. Two units of Kalyanpur Fire Station brought the fire under control.
The third incident took place at Gabtali around 9 pm as another bus was set on fire in front of Sergeant Ahad Police Box.
Another bus was torched in Jatrabari area tonight, fire service sources said.
Fire service and civil defence's media cell confirmed the matters.
BNP has announced a fresh nationwide blockade for Sunday and Monday. Many public vehicles were also torched during the previous blockade programme of BNP in the last few weeks.
