UNHRC to review Bangladesh's rights record tomorrow

The human rights situation of Bangladesh will be reviewed under the universal periodic review (UPR) process of the UN Human Rights Council, tomorrow (November 13) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to take part in the UPR process for the fourth consecutive time, an official release said.

A high-level Bangladesh delegation led by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq is going to take part in the UPR meeting in Geneva. 

Secretaries and senior officer of Foreign Ministry, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs are taking part in the meeting as part of Bangladesh delegation.

The delegation will present before the gathering different steps of Bangladesh government in developing country’s human rights situation in last four years and answer different questions in this regard.

The UPR is held in every four years to review human rights situation of UN member states. Bangladesh took part in the UPR in 2009 for the first time and after that in 2013 and in 2018.
