Govt won't do anything that can influence polls: Anisul Huq

Law minister Anisul Huq on Thursday (November 16) said the government will not carry out anything that can influence the general elections.

He was talking to reporters at his office in the capital this afternoon.

The minister said the government will continue its routine job till the elections end.

Sheikh Hasina’s government will not make any decisions at the policy level because of elections, he reiterated.

“The development works will continue. However, no new development work will be started. No new projects will be taken up. We will not do such things that can influence the election,” Anisul Huq also said.

Explaining the routine work, he said, “Routine work refers to the ongoing operations necessary for administrative functions. This includes tasks such as disbursing salaries for autonomous bodies and maintaining daily activities, which will proceed under the current government.

When asked whether any laws will be passed during this time, the law minister said no new laws will be enacted as the parliament is not in session anymore.

"However, if necessary, ordinances may be issued in case of urgent needs as a special arrangement," he said.
