A Chattogram court today (November 23) sentenced two people to life imprisonment for raping a 14 year old girl in Patiya area of the district. 

Judge Zainal Abedin of Chattogram Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-3 handed down the verdict this morning.

The convicts are - Sanjay Dey, 22, son of Swapan Dey of Dakshin Bhurshi area and later Dr. Rabindra Lal Mitra's son Kanchan Mitra, 47.

According to the case statement, on July 5, 2020, the victim was picked by the convicts from the road in front of the house by showing fear and temptation.

Later, the victim’s father filed a case with Patiya police station. After the investigation, the police submitted the charge sheet to the tribunal, and on January 2, 2022, the accused were charged and the trial began. The tribunal gave this verdict after taking the testimony of seven people in the case.

Chattogram Women and Children Suppression Tribunal-3 Special PP Ziko Barua confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
