Former Swechchhasebak League leader shot dead in Jhenaidah

A group of miscreants allegedly shot dead a Swechchhasebak League leader in Jhenaidah district Thursday (Yesterday) night.

The incident happened at village Shura under Harinakunda upazila of the district at 9:30pm.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Hossain, 43, son of Nantu Miah, was a former general secretary of Harinakunda municipality unit of Swechchhasebak League.

Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Harinakunda police station confirmed the matter today (November 24).

He said quoting locals that a group of miscreants attacked Shamim while he was sitting on the bank of a pond adjacent to his home.

Later, they shot in Shamim’s chest and hacked him with locally made sharp weapons and left the place, leaving Shamim critically injured, he said.

Locals rushed Shamim to Harinakunda Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared him dead, OC said.

Police investigating the matter, said OC, adding that legal action would be taken against those found involved in the incident.
