July 3 was officially declared as National Birth Registration Day in 2007.

President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion.

It is important to have right figures on population and rate of population growth in implementing different development projects, said Zillur Rahman in his message.

He called upon all to take part in the birth registration process for their own sake.

Sheikh Hasina, in her message, also urged all to take birth certificates, as it is needed in 16 sectors of civic life.

The government is getting prepared to distribute birth certificates through internet in nine districts soon and the process would be expanded to all districts in phases, she added.
