5 killed in clashes during countrywide anti-quota protest

At least five people were killed and many others sustained bullet wounds in clashes among protestors, activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and police members in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rangpur today (July 16).

Demanding reformation in the quota system in government jobs, thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in the capital and elsewhere blocking highways and busy thoroughfares.

Earlier, three people, including a student, were killed during a clash between Chhatra League men and quota protesters in Chattogram city.

On the other hand, one student of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) in Rangpur was killed during a clash between police and the quota reform protesters at the university entrance this noon.
