Editors' Council urges all to act responsibly

The Editors' Council has issued a call to action for the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement, all political parties and their affiliates, and the general public to act responsibly in addressing the current situation following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Highlighting the widespread violence occurring across the country, the council also urged President Md. Shahabuddin to take swift measures to halt these incidents.

In a press statement, the Editors' Council remarked that the resignation of Sheikh Hasina came at a great cost. Over the past three weeks, more than 400 people have lost their lives, and countless others have been injured. The violence has also claimed the lives of five media workers, with over a hundred more injured.

"The Editors' Council expresses its condolences and condemns these incidents," the statement read.

The council noted that the political turmoil following Sheikh Hasina's resignation has resulted in a state of anarchy.

"Everyone is anxious about the safety of lives and property, both public and private," the statement continued, mentioning incidents of arson and vandalism at critical establishments, including factories and law enforcement facilities.

The statement also drew attention to reports of attacks on minority communities, urging an immediate end to such violence.

Besides, there have been instances of looting and vandalism at various television and media organizations.

"To prevent these unwanted incidents, the president must promptly take necessary action," the statement concluded.
