Advocate Gobinda Pramanik, president of the Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote (Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance), has refuted claims by Indian media regarding attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
In an interview with Bangla Outlook on Tuesday, Pramanik stated, "Some Indian media outlets are spreading widespread rumours and falsehoods about this issue, making bizarre statements."
Pramanik said that following Sheikh Hasina's resignation on Monday, the Hindu community in Bangladesh feared potential attacks, looting, and arson.
However, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP instructed their members to protect Hindu homes and temples, preventing any such incidents, he said.
"Since Tuesday, we have seen them guarding the temples," he said, adding that due to these measures, there were no attacks on the Hindu community or vandalism of temples.
He claimed that only the homes of some Awami League leaders—both Hindus and Muslims, known for their past aggressions, were targeted and vandalized.
Pramanik criticized the Indian media for spreading misinformation.
"I saw today that they created stories about Sheikh Hasina, lamenting over the destruction of Bangabandhu's statue," he said.
He also mentioned a conversation with an Indian journalist, where he responded, "If you are so distressed about Sheikh Hasina, declare her your Prime Minister. She can protect both India and the Seven Sisters. You always say the Seven Sisters won't survive without her. Now is your chance. Make Sheikh Hasina the Prime Minister of India."
