National Emergency Service 999 resumes: Police HQ

The National Emergency Service 999 of the country has fully resumed operations, the Police Headquarters said on Tuesday (August 13) morning.

According to media reports, staffing at the 999 emergency service, which is managed under the Ministry of Home Affairs, was reduced since 5 August due to security concerns. Most police officers had relocated to safer areas outside Dhaka at the time.

As a result, only ten out of the usual 100 workstations at the National Emergency Service remained active, leaving many public calls for help unanswered due to the absence of police personnel.

Now fully operational, the 999 service can handle up to 120 calls per minute, with 80 call operators on duty.
