Dhaka court dismisses case against journo Rozina Islam

A special correspondent for Prothom Alo, Rozina Islam, has been acquitted of all charges under the Official Secrets Act after over three years.

The decision was announced today by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.

Rozina Islam’s lawyer, Prashanta Karmakar, confirmed the news to Prothom Alo. He mentioned that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) had submitted a final report to the court, which was accepted today, leading to Rozina Islam’s acquittal.

Earlier in the day, Asif Nazrul, the interim government's legal adviser, assured that false charges against Rozina Islam would be withdrawn.

This development comes a day after Rozina Islam regained her passport from the court, more than a year after it was initially submitted on May 25, 2023, following a court directive. Despite multiple appeals, her passport had not been returned until now.
