A Chattogram court today (August 27) awarded life term imprisonment to four persons for raping a 18-year old girl at Jorarganj thana under Mirsarai upazila of the district in 2019. 

The judge of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Begum Ferdouse Ara passed the judgment. 

The convicts are - Md Nazmul, 24, Md Reaz Hossain, 24, Md Jamshed Alam, 19, and Md Dulal, 22. All hailed from north Morgan, ward no-1 under Jorarganj thana of the district. 

The court also fined Tk one lakh to each, in default, to suffer another one-year rigorous imprisonment.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that Md Nazmul forcibly raped an 18-year old girl Resma in cooperation with three of his accomplices at the victim's residence in absence of her parents at north Morgan, ward no-1 under Jorarganj Thana of the district at the night on August 2 in 2019.
 
Later, victim's father Md Abul Hasem filed a case against the convicted persons with Jorarganj thana on August 23 regarding the incident.

Police submitted the charge sheet before the court on January 16 in 2020, while the court framed charges against the accused on January 31 in 2021. 

The court after examining eight witnesses, out of 11, the court delivered the judgment. 
 
Three convicted persons were present before the court while pronouncing the verdict, the court sources said.
