At least four more murder cases were filed Monday against ousted autocratic premier Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka city, while an abduction case was lodged in Rajshahi district, taking the total number of lawsuits against Bangabandhu’s eldest daughter past 70 in just three weeks.
Four cases were filed for killings in the capital’s Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Demra, and Jatrabari areas, and the abduction case was filed with Rajshahi district’s Bagha upazila police station.
According to statement of the first case, Hasina and 21 others were complicit in the killing Mansur Miah, a machine operator of Buriganga Filling Station at Basila of Mohammadpur on 19 July.
Mansur was out to bring home his son from a local madrasa, when a sudden barrage of bullets hit him leaving him dead on the spot, as per his brother Ainal Haque.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury recorded Ainal’s statement and ordered Mohammadpur Police Station to register it as a first information report (FIR).
The cabinet members in the ousted Awami League government: Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Ali Arafat and Jahangir Kabir Nanak as well as police officers including former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, ex-DB chief Harun Or Rashid and former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman were named as accused in the case.
In the second case, Hasina and 91 others were accused for ordering and executing the death of Miraz Hossain in the capital’s Demra area on 5 August. On the day, Miraz joined student-led demonstrations, but suddenly police, RAB and hundreds of Awami League activists attacked the anti-government protesters with local weapons and firearms.
Miraz received gunshot wounds along with some others, and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The victim's bother Khorshed Alam filed the case against with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain.
Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Harun Or Rashid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman and former DMP joint-commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker were among the accused in the case.
As per filings in the third case, Hasina and 40 others orchestrated the killing of Nahidul Islam with gunfire at Mirpur-10 on 19 July during the government job quota reform movement.
The victim's brother Md Sabuj filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan, who then ordered Mirpur Model Police Station to register an FIR.
Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, ex-IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Hasina' sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Harun Or Rashid, former Dhaka South mayor Sheik Fazle Noor Taposh, former Jubo League chief Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman were among the accused.
In the fourth case, Hasina and 48 others were sued for the death of Dulal alias Selim in the city's Jatrabari area on 3 August during mass protests to oust the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former AL lawmakers Shamim Osman and Ramesh Chandra were among the accused.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saddam Hossain ordered the officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station to register the issue as a first information report (FIR).
In Rajshahi, SM Salahuddin Ahmmed Shamim Sarkar, a member of Bagha upazila Chhatra Dal in the district, filed a case against Hasina, former state minister Shahriar Alam and 52 others.
According to the case statement, Hasina and the others accused ordered for the abduction of Salahuddin by law enforcers on 21 May 2023.
The BNP activist was tortured and shot in the leg, before being framed in a false case, he claimed in the case statement.
