A court in Dhaka today (Oct 6) imposed a travel ban on Major General (Retd) TM Jobayer, former Director General of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and his wife Fahamina Masud.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge (Acting) Farzana Yasmin passed the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said ACC Court Inspector Amir Hossain.
The ACC in its petition told the court that Major General (Retd) TM Jobayer is under investigation for allegedly accepting large sums in bribes in exchange for jobs, abusing his power to accumulate illicit wealth, and acquiring properties, including a house in London worth £2.945 million, with funds suspected to be laundered abroad.
The petitioner also claimed, “The individuals involved may attempt to flee the country. To ensure a proper investigation, it is necessary to restrict their foreign travel.”
