Bangladesh Police have filed charge sheets in 26 cases stemming from incidents during the recent student-people’s anti-discrimination uprising, including eight murder cases and 18 under various other charges.
AHM Shahadat Hossain, Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) at Police Headquarters, confirmed the matter on Thursday (August 21).
The eight murder cases include incidents recorded in Sherpur, Feni, Chandpur, Cumilla, Kurigram and within Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
The 18 other cases were filed in Bogura, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, and Jamalpur districts, as well as under Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Barishal Metropolitan Police, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and the Police Bureau of Investigation.
According to police data, a total of 1,153 individuals have been charged in the murder cases, while 682 are accused in the other cases.
Senior police officials are supervising investigations to ensure thorough inquiries into all cases linked to the uprising.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to complete investigations in the remaining cases and bring offenders to justice.
