A Dhaka court today (October 6) placed Abul Kalam Azad, former principal secretary of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on a seven-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim in the capital.
Dhaka Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jiadur Rahman passed the order as police produced Azad, also a former lawmaker from Jamalpur-5, before the court and pleaded to place him 10-day remand in the case lodged with the capital's Paltan Police Station.
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Abul Kalam Azad from the capital's Dhanmandi area on October 5.
According to the case documents, BNP called grand rally on October 28, 2023. To foil this program, Awami League too called its own grand rally in the capital. At one stage, Awami League goons, with the help of police, attacked BNP's rally in Naya Paltan, killing Shamim on the spot.
The case was filed with the capital's Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024.
