A total of 175 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from Libya with the assistance of the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The group arrived in Dhaka early Thursday morning (Aug 21), landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 6 am on a Burak Air flight.
According to officials, most of those returning had entered Libya while attempting to reach Europe illegally via dangerous sea routes, often lured by human traffickers.
Many reportedly endured kidnapping and abuse during their stay in the North African country.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the repatriation was carried out in coordination with IOM and the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli. Upon their arrival in Dhaka, the returnees were received by IOM representatives at the airport.
