DHAKA: Investigation against Jamaat-e-Islami for its alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 is in its final stage.
The investigation wing of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has gleaned information and data against the party for more than six months.
Sources in ICT told banglanews they are sorting out data and information culled from the investigation that started on August 18, 2013.
They hoped the reports would be submitted by the end of February, 2014 to help frame charges against Jamaat-e-Islami by March.
Prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz along with the investigation wing of the prosecution were trying to unearth evidence of Jamaat-e-Islami’s involvement through books written by party leaders, their speeches and political statements at various times, advertisements and reports by local and international intelligence agencies.
Barrister Turin Afroz told banglanews, “We have collected information in the country and abroad about Jamaat-e-Islami’s involvement in war crimes during 1971. We expect to submit the report by the end of February.”
She also said: “We are sharing the documentary evidence with witnesses. We might produce witnesses from abroad too.”
Investigation officer Motiur Rahman told banglanews, “We took time to collect and analyze political history of Jamaat. We might take some more time as our probe is in-depth.”
He also said that they were making Xeroxes and binding relevant parts of local and international news papers, books and intelligence reports.
