Home affairs adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (Oct 29) urged the media to publish reports highlighting any flaws or instances of corruption within the interim government.
He made the remarks after a visit to the Central Jail Preservation and Development Project site in Old Dhaka.
"If there is any mistake or misconduct on our part, you (media/journalists) should report on it. This will help us to be vigilant and correct our course. Highlight our genuine mistakes, but avoid baseless criticism," he told journalists, urging them to assist in ensuring transparency.
Responding to questions on the recent road blockades by students of seven colleges, he criticized those causing gridlocks while simultaneously complaining about Dhaka’s traffic woes.
He suggested they hold protests in designated places like Suhrawardy Udyan to avoid inconveniencing the public.
"Those who create traffic jams are the same ones talking about traffic problems in Dhaka. We need public awareness to tackle this issue," Chowdhury remarked.
The Adviser also highlighted the growing problem of traffic congestion in Dhaka, noting that, “Roads are not expanding, yet the number of vehicles and people continues to rise. While everyone demands more road space, they are unwilling to make room for it.”
