DHAKA: Speakers at the Bangladesh Copyright & IP Forum’s Workshop said effective enforcement of the existing Copyright Act is urgently required to encourage innovation and creativity.
They came up with observation at the training workshop, organized for the Bangladesh Police by Bangladesh Copyright & IP Forum and Copyright Office, at Abacus Convention Center in city’s Eskaton area on Wednesday morning.
They also said people involved in the vicious cycle of piracy are not aware of the consequences of copyright violation. Active involvement of the law enforcing agencies will reduce the piracy rate in the country. This will ensure proper evaluation of our creative minds.
Cultural secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas NDC addressed the workshop as chief guest.
‘Law enforcing agencies should be made more aware on the copyright situation in Bangladesh. It will create awareness among people. Public and private entities together should play their due role here,’ Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas said.
Founder and Chief Executive of Bangladesh Copyright & IP Forum Barrister ABM Hamidul Mishbah said, ‘Frequent practice of software piracy dishonors our innovators and creators. Piracy restrains their enthusiasm too. Law Enforcing Agencies should come forward to control the software piracy situation accordingly’.
