Thrilling chapter opens in Cumilla’s Muradnagar rape incident

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has provided thrilling information regarding Cumilla’s Muradnagar rape and torture incident which video has recently went viral in the social media.

RAB-11 commander Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain came up with the information at a briefing held at the RAB Media Center in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Friday.

RAB said younger brother Shah Poran, 28, created mob and tortured the victim, and his elder brother Fazar Ali due to long-standing feud. Later, a video of the molestation was made public.

However, RAB-11 has arrested Shah Poran from Kabila bazar area under Buringchar police station in Cumilla on Thursday (July 4).

Sajjad Hossain said both brothers, residents of Bahechar village, had long been harassing the victim. Around two months ago, an altercation between them escalated to a physical fight, which was later settled in a village arbitration. During that meeting, Fazor Ali slapped Shah Poran in public, fueling a desire for revenge.

A few days later, the victim's mother took a Tk 50,000 loan from Fazor Ali on interest. On the night of the incident, taking advantage of the victim’s parents’ absence (they had gone to a local fair), Fazor Ali entered her room around 11:30pm under the pretext of collecting the loan.

About 20 minutes later, as per a pre-planned scheme, Shah Poran along with Abul Kalam, Onik, Arif, Sumon, Ramzan, and 8 to 10 unidentified men broke into the house. They physically assaulted and sexually harassed the victim and recorded objectionable videos which were later circulated on social media.

The rape incident took place on the night of June 26 in Bahechar village under Muradnagar upazila.

A case was filed on June 29 by the victim at Muradnagar Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and Pornography Control Act. So far, six people have been arrested in connection with the case.

The process of handing Shah Poran over to Muradnagar Police Station is underway, while drives are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused.
