Former lawmaker and singer Momtaz Begum has been shown arrested in two separate cases filed with Ashulia Police Station in Savar, Dhaka.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohag granted the petitions on Thursday (July 24), to show her arrested following appeals from the investigation officers. 

Following the appeal by police Momtaz was later sent to jail.

Earlier, Momtaz was produced before the court. Sub-Inspector Md Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan of Ashulia Police filed the petition in connection with the murder case of a clothing trader named Moniruzzaman. In a separate case, SI Modon Chandra Saha sought her arrest over the attempted murder of a youth named Farhad Hossain.

Following hearings, the court granted both petitions.

According to the case details, Moniruzzaman died after sustaining bullet injuries during an anti-discrimination student protest in the Ashulia area on August 5 last year.

On the same day and in the same protest, a youth named Farhad Hossain was shot and critically injured. He later received treatment at CHM Hospital.

Farhad filed an attempted murder case with Ashulia Police Station on September 29 last year.
