Still working to recover all illegal weapons: Home adviser Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury

Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said authorities have yet to recover all illegal weapons ahead of the upcoming national election, though efforts are ongoing.

He said, “We haven’t recovered all the arms yet, but we are trying. Many weapons will be recovered before the election. We will do our best to ensure the polls are held peacefully.”

The adviser was talking to reporters on Saturday (July 26) after inspecting the Narayanganj District Police Lines.

The adviser stressed that law enforcement is not the only stakeholder in the election process. “The main stakeholders are the participants in the election—the Election Commission and the administration. They play the leading role. If they cooperate, we can do our part.”

Addressing journalists, he said, “We ask for your support. If you report the truth, no one will be able to create unrest. These days, artificial intelligence is being used to manipulate reality—turning images of the dead into the living. I urge you to report accurately.”

He added that the role of the home ministry is to present the facts behind incidents that occur. “There’s no room for concealment. When the truth comes out, people become aware. There will always be vested interests trying to create problems.”

He also urged political parties to avoid internal conflict. “There should be no rift between political parties and the police. Your job is to win over the people; ours is to maintain law and order so that citizens can live in peace.”
