First anniversary of July Uprising Day observed in New York Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to CA, addressing a programme

The first anniversary of July Uprising Day was observed in New York through a joint initiative of the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.

The Bangladesh Consulate General in New York announced on Saturday (July 26) that the event was attended by Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant for Economic Affairs to the Chief Adviser, as the chief guest.

The programme began with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the July 2024 uprising and those who lost their lives in the recent tragic crash of an Air Force training aircraft on the campus of Milestone College in Bangladesh. A documentary on the July uprising was then screened.

Chief guest Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury paid tribute to the martyrs of the July uprising, prayed for the peace of their souls, and expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries caused by the plane crash at Milestone School and College. 

He said Bangladesh is now actively working to transform itself into a democratic nation with a strong economy through reforms and the establishment of good governance in the post-2024 era. 

Citing the country’s growing economy, rapidly developing industrial and service sectors, youthful population, and the availability of hardworking and talented labour along with expanding technological capabilities, he expressed gratitude to the remittance warriors living in the United States for helping keep the wheels of the economy moving. He called on civil society to remain united on matters concerning Bangladesh.

Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury began his remarks by paying tribute to the martyrs of the July uprising and wishing a swift recovery for those injured in the movement. 

He also expressed deep sorrow over the plane crash at Milestone School and College. 

In his address, he honoured the unforgettable sacrifices of expatriate Bangladeshi students and citizens during the July uprising and thanked members of the diaspora in the United States for their contributions to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development.

Consul General Mohammad Mozammel Hoque, in his welcome speech, gratefully recalled the role of expatriate students and citizens in the July uprising. 

He sought the sincere cooperation of the diaspora in implementing the reform agenda undertaken by the interim government under the leadership of the Chief Adviser.

a large number of guests, including freedom fighters, dignitaries, political, social, business, cultural and media figures, Bangladeshi students, and members of the community attended the event.
