The National Consensus Commission has prepared a draft of the proposed ‘July Charter’, which will be circulated to political parties on Monday. It also aims to conclude the ongoing dialogue process by July 31, according to its Vice-Chairman Professor Dr Ali Riaz.
He said a draft titled the ‘July Charter’ has already been prepared and would be circulated to political parties by Monday. The draft outlines a preliminary framework for a national charter and will be finalized based on feedback and verification from all parties involved.
Ali Riaz made the remarks during his opening speech at the 19th day of the second phase of the dialogue, held Sunday (July 27) at the Foreign Service Academy’s Doel Hall in the capital.
To make further progress, Today's dialogue session is scheduled to continue until 10:00 pm, Riaz added.
Topics under discussion include the fundamental principles of state governance, proposals to expand fundamental rights, and a plan to establish a police commission.
According to Riaz, consensus has already been reached among political parties on 10 out of 20 agenda items. However, several proposals carry “notes of dissent,” which have been recorded as opposing views.
Seven topics still lack consensus, while discussions on the remaining three are ongoing. Additional sessions have been proposed to address the unresolved items.
Sunday’s session was attended by representatives from 30 political parties, including notable participation from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, LDP, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gonosonghoti Andolon, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Revolutionary Workers Party, and Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party).
