Bangladesh receives $1.93b in remittances in 26 days

Bangladesh received $1.93 billion in remittance in the first 26 days of July, according to Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (July 27).

The total amount, equivalent to Tk23,481 crore at the exchange rate of Tk121.50 per US dollar, indicates a notable increase compared to the same period last year.

On average, the country received $74.31 million in remittance per day so far this month. In comparison, the daily average remittance in July last year was $63.79 million, while in June this year it was higher at $94.08 million.

Although slightly lower than June, the current month’s remittance inflow has exceeded the figures from July of the previous year.

The central bank’s data shows that $382.63 million came through state-owned commercial banks and $204.01 million through Bangladesh Krishi Bank. Private commercial banks accounted for the highest share, channeling $1.34 billion, while foreign banks brought in $92.5 million.

However, eight banks—National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of India, Habib Bank, Padma Bank, AB Bank’s offshore unit (Assisi Islami Bank), Citizen Bank, Community Bank, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, and Bangladesh Development Bank—reported no remittance inflow during the 26-day period.
