Five killed as train hits auto-rickshaw in Cox’s Bazar

Five people, including the driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, were killed after a train collided with the vehicle in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon (August 2) in the Rashidnagar area of the upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Asmaul Hosna (27), daughter of Zafar Alam from Bharuyakhali in Sadar upazila; her sister Renu Akter (13); Asmaul's two young children, Ata Ullah (1) and Asheq Ullah (3); and auto-rickshaw driver Habibur Rahman.

Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tayyubur Rahman confirmed the incident to the media.

According to police and local sources, the Cox’s Bazar Express train hit the auto-rickshaw while it was crossing the railway line at Rashidnagar, en route from Ramu to Varuakhali, leaving all four occupants, including the driver, dead.
